Holly Nielsen Pasinetti and Nielsen will share data visualization principles and techniques learned in a course taught by Edward Tufte, a professor emeritus of statistics and political economy at Yale University. Tufte authored four books on the subject of data visualization and analytical design, including his seminal work, The Visual Display of Quantitative Information. He teaches and promotes the design of data and information displays, which aid analytical thinking and decision-making based on evidence. This presentation will specifically address the use of space and time, the elimination of visual clutter (chartjunk), the use of small multiples, graphical integrity and sparklines.
