Project/Grant Financial Reporting Detail

M-Reports provides the ability to view the financial status of your project/grants * online; including sponsored research, UM-funded, gift, and other projects.

Sponsored research reporting in M-Reports resulted from a joint charge by the Provost, Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer and the Vice President for Research: Provide faculty with ready access to timely information about the budget/fiscal status of their research projects.  Subsequently, M-Reports was enhanced to include all types of projects/grants, providing project directors and administrators with the financial picture of all their project-based activity.

M-Reports project/grant financial reporting allows faculty and administrators to:

  • View summary sponsored and “non-sponsored” project/grant data by Principal Investigator or by Project Administrator.

Source/Use Reporting  Detail

Source/Use is a financial reporting and trending approach widely-used by University departments. Source/Use reporting allows departments to compare incoming revenue (i.e. sources) to outgoing expenditures (i.e. uses) in order to identify trends and anomalies.

The M-Reports Source/Use Year-To-Date report offers financial managers the ability to:

  • Identify high level balances by Fund or Fund group for a fiscal year
  • Drill to transaction detail, including payroll, benefits, student financials, invoices, and vouchers
  • Analyze sources of revenue and spending by Fund or Fund group over time
  • Select various groups of departments within a school/college/department group to facilitate reporting and analysis
  • Enable data-driven decisions (i.e., business intelligence)
The M-Reports Source/Use Projections report provides all of the above, with the additional option to compare balances for multiple fiscal years for all Funds, a single Fund, or a Fund group. Projected amounts, based on prior fiscal year data, allow you to estimate revenues and expenses at a point in time during the current fiscal year or estimate year-end totals. The University's Office of Budget & Planning recommend the use of this report during the annual budgeting process.

The Source/Use At-A-Glance report uses totals, graphs, and percentages to quickly highlight comparisons and trending data for your revenues and expenses for multiple fiscal years by all Funds, a single Fund, or a specific Fund group.
